The Garretts of New Zealand
email me
We are the descendants of a mixture of immigrants to NZ in the 19th and 20th Centuries from the United Kingdom. The Garrett name is from the Isle of Man. Most of our immediate family live in Otago and Southland with some in the Nelson area.
We keep in touch by phone, letter and e-mail on a regular basis

We have been researching our family history in recent times.  Our chief historian is Mrs Joy Samson of Dunedin. joy.samson@xtra.co.nz. She is at present writing up the history of the Garrett name.  Now in limited publication with the title of" Military, Miners and Maintenance". Malcolm and Betty Garrett, until recently of Tuatapere, now of Motueka, have also been active in pursuing family history, with a visit to family sources on the Isle of Man.  We have an extensive GEDCOM file on family links both in NZ and on Isle of Man, USA and Canada. You will notice that the name Lovell appears as well as Garrett.
Look out for more information soon. You will see a button above the hit counter so you can explore this site for family ties. The GEDCOM file has been converted to a Web file and there are lots of photos missing which we will post later.
You will also notice many references to Betty's lively relations and their descendants.
These underlined links are active. Scroll down to get to the Family Tree Site and hit the Genstart Icon.
As you are visiting this site, it would be nice if you could sign in on the guest book. Easy to do and keeps the site lively. THANKS!

There are three documents for you to peruse.  They are transcribed from originals obtained from David Garrett's researchers on IOM and deal with A contested will, a marriage agreement and a land transfer - all involving the Garrett family.  You may care to compare the names of those involved, with the family tree file. Just click the buttons on the left!  Enjoy and have a laugh or two as well.
